Glan Agua are the contractors to supply water to the point of delivery at the reservoirs for Mid-Roscommon Co-Operative Society Ltd. This includes the treatment and pumping of water. We are in a 20 year contract with Glan Agua which started in June 2011. 

 

 

Water Treatment

 

The treatment provided is comprehensive and consists of two stage filtration. The first stage consists of 5 rapid gravity filters operating in parallel. Prior to this stage a coagulant is added and the water is flocculated to increase the efficiency of the filters.

 

The second stage of the filtration process is a polishing stage using carbon activated filters (3 No. in parallel). The benefit of the filters being in parallel is that, should one filter be taken out of service for maintenance, the other filters can continue to operate.

 

After the filtration process is complete the water undergoes UV treatment followed by disinfection with chlorination. The UV sterilizes any cryptosporidium oocysts in the water and the chlorination provides a residual disinfectant for the future.

 

The washwater from the filters is settled in settlement tanks and the sludge removed from site.

Additional Treatment at Lismurtagh Plant;

 

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is a water treatment process that clarifies water by the removal of suspended matter such as solids. The removal is achieved by dissolving air in the water under pressure and then releasing the air atatmospheric pressure in a flotation tank. The released air forms tiny bubbles which adhere to the suspended matter causing the suspended matter to float to the surface of the water where it may then be removed by a skimming device.
